Yes, it happened. Spice has replaced Tong on 13th St. Too bad. Tong was an unusual take on Thai. Perhaps too unusual for the masses. Next question: what will become of the Spice space? Let’s hope it’s not destined to become a bank.

Some interesting facts and figures, including the detail that One Union Square South is only 30 percent sold and that the white-brick Victoria (across 14th St.) recenty added “Union Square” to its name.

Spice Cafe, the Thai place at 10th and Unversity, is moving on Dec. 29 to 39 East 13th St. That’s weird because that’s the current location of Tong. Is the brand new Tong going out of business already?
In other news, Tokyo Lamen on University is “closed for renovations” and promises to reopen as a higher-end noodle place, like the three or four other noodle hot spots that have opened recently in the East Village.
